HCA Congratulates Mr. Unsicker and Names New Head of School

HCA is excited to congratulate Dean Unsicker on his retirement! We are eternally thankful to Mr. Unsicker for his leadership and servant’s heart that he tirelessly displayed at our school. We congratulate Mr. Unsicker on his retirement and will continue to hold him and his family up in prayer as he starts this new chapter of his life.

We are thrilled to announce Tom Shefchunas, Mr. Shef, as HCA’s new Head of School. This is just another reminder that God continues to look out for us in ways we cannot expect. He continues to graciously provide for our school by placing the right individual in our path at the right time.

Meet Mr. Shef…

Tom Shefchunas, or “Shef” as most people call him, has worked with students and adult leaders for over 25 years.  He has been a teacher, a coach, a high school principal, Director of Student Ministry for North Point Ministries, Executive Director of Students for Orange and Youth Specialties and now is the Head of School for Horizon Christian Academy.  His passion involves casting vision, building effective teams, and fixing “stuff.”  He is also an author of several books including co-authoring Lead Small with Reggie Joiner.  Shef has a degree in Physics and Education from Grove City College, A Masters in Educational Leadership from Georgia State, and a Masters in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary.  Shef and his wife Julie live in Cumming, Georgia with their three kids Mac, Joey, and Cooper. He also has a dog named Reverend.
