Spanish teacher and Dean of Student Activities Mrs. Melanie Godwin is one of the most well-respected members of the staff at Horizon. She has been working and serving at HCA since 2003, and her time here provides a welcome perspective on a wide array of topics. She chose to work at Horizon because she resonated with the school’s mission: “Preparing warriors for Christ by partnering with families to provide a Christ-centered educational environment”, and wanted to support it.
She says her favorite part of her job is working with students, which is a theme across our teachers and administrators. Mrs. Godwin finds great enjoyment in helping students overcome small, everyday obstacles, as well as providing guidance in life’s larger decisions. She is clearly dedicated to pouring into students, not only academically, but also spiritually.
Mrs. Godwin choses to use her teaching and leadership abilities to add to what the Lord is doing at Horizon. In everything from moving campuses to small moments with students, Mrs. Godwin has countless stories to tell about her 15 years at Horizon.
During her time here, she has seen our school undergo immense change, both in the big picture and on an individual level. When asked what she has seen change, she mentioned growth, not only in student body size but also in development of students and staff. Our growth, even very recently, contributes to a stronger student culture and a sense of school spirit. She also mentions that Horizon has changed to meet the demands of the time, both culturally and spiritually. Mrs. Godwin says she would like to see HCA continue to grow and specifically develop our fine arts and foreign language programs. These programs would compliment the wide array of elective and extracurricular offerings at Horizon. Mrs. Godwin has been such an asset so far and we look forward to having her on staff in years to come.
